Boullier guarantees McLaren Honda Success

McLaren's Racing Director has promised more success to come from the new McLaren Honda partnership. Up until Hungary, the team had only managed to score 5 points, and the new Honda engine, while lightweight and compact, has suffered from severe durability issues, aswell as inferior power compared to other manufacturer's power units. But McLaren managed a double points finish at the tumultuous Hungaroring last weekend, resulting in a 12 points boost, and McLaren is now only 5 points behind Sauber.

"We benefited from a goodly degree of attrition ahead of us," Boullier admits.

"and clearly our team didn't build its illustrious reputation on fifth places and ninth places. But, nonetheless, the 12 world championship points we scored represent a buoying fillip as we pack up and head off on holiday for the midsummer shutdown."

The team might also have benefited from recent regulation changes made by the World Motorsport Council. The council now will allow new manufacturers to use one more power unit per driver compared to other manufacturers, but since McLaren already had used five engines, Button and Alonso got one sixth complete unit each. Honda was also allowed one token free upgrade on the units.

Boullier also commend his drivers, while claiming that although it might take some time before improvements can be noticed, they will  happen.

"And, lest we forget, our drivers have been magnificent both on- and off-track.It'll take time to get to where we want to be, but we'll get there; that I guarantee."
